Scoville Challenge 28.11.2021

Created in collaboration with Hiukkanen and TaSciEn, the Scoville challenge proved itself to be one of the hottest events of the semester with sauces ranging from mildest of sauces, to a whopping 2,000,000 scoville units! Each participant who signed up had to complete a gauntlet of ten hot wings, each being spicier than the one before until they reached the ultimate Mystery Sauce created in the bowels of hell to challenge even the bravest of warriors. 95% of these brave warriors managed to complete the challenge, earning themselves the grand title of Scoville Ville, a mark of honour amongst the capsaicin connoisseurs of Tampere university, and also earning themselves a flaming hot wing patch as a medal of respect which can be stacked up through participation in future completions of the Scoville Challenge.

Halloween Hunt XXI

As Hallow’s Eve approaches, the evil spirit of the Plague Doctor has returned to the university to continue his… extracurricular studies.
All doctors need to get their PhD and this one is no exception.

Find various parts of the doctor’s history and activities by searching throughout the university by following the cryptic clues provided.
The event lasts the whole week, beginning Monday 25th October and finishing on Hallow’s Eve, Sunday 31st October.

There are 24 checkpoints to find in total between Hervanta and Central Campus, those that find at least 5 will be awarded a patch, and those quick with both their wits and on their feet may just find some extra prizes at checkpoints more difficult to find.

Hervanta

  1. Some mysterious posters have appeared in the university hallways.
    Investigate them!
  2. The rain has recently exposed some small skeletons that were once buried in sand. Investigate sandy locations and report your sightings to PC001D.
  3. The entity appears to corrupt electrical equipment. Some students have reported hearing unusual music near some basement. It might have dropped some of its belongings there.
  4. This “Doctor” has brewed concoctions on campus. The entity cannot have access to the labs, so it must have done it somewhere else! Find the Doctor’s chemical stash and report it to PC001D.
  5. Where did Mikko go? Let’s ask the hecking banana flies!
  6. Weren’t rats somehow related to the plague…?
Rumour has it that a family of grey rats lives somewhere in the main building’s basement.
  7. According to History, plague doctor’s used dried flowers in their mask’s beak to ward off miasma.
It’s also handy when visiting graves.
  8. The Doctor might have demonic origins. His summoning requires a large concentration of crystals.
Locate his summoning circle and report it to PC001D.
  9. If rats were not the answer, then maybe bugs are!
Fleas are bugs… right? Now, where can I find bugs…?
    Maybe under some stairs…?
  10. P̸̋ ̵̕ ͆̑5̸́7̶͛/̴̆5̸̾9̵̔ This hint was corrupted by the entity and could not be fully salvaged.
  11. Deep underground, the doctor uses his medical tools to “fix” people. The noise of rolling boards covers the screams of his patients.
  12. The doctor is a busy man, he will see you during your appointment. Perhaps he gave you a message of when and where that is.

City Centre

  1. Find what it is that scared away all the hope of a healthier day. Walk the stairs to get the FINT and in the grass you’ll see a hint.
  2. She is a queen of them all, bloody because of your fault. Redeem yourself by finding hope in a cafe with Finnish folk.
  3. Papyrus was their find. Wrapped in paper you will find a mummy of this kind. Waiting for you at Cafe in Pinni is your paper mummy mini.
  4. The day of the dead is nearby. Our ancestors come to say hi. Greet them as they cross in the sky from Päätalo to Pinni.
  5. Hidden in the peace of Oasis lies the knife that killed the wife.
  6. They are a bunch of unhappy souls looking to scare you and score a goal. Scare them first and settle the score in Pinni B second floor.
  7. They spin their web to trap the flies but Aragog may say otherwise. Spinning their web in notice boards covering up all the notes.
  8. Take a picture and you feel someone is missing from the reel. Go to Pinni third floor to find the sticks left behind the Blaire witch.
  9. She is known for her brews. From magic potions to future predictions you can trust her true. Waiting for you in the quiet room. Set her free and prevent the doom.
  10. Lived like kings in life and death. Wrapped in silk and thread. Nothing escapes their prying eyes whether you are eating chili or fries in Linna.
  11. Who hides behind the darkness of the the revolving shelves? Churn it up and set them free.
  12. In the depths of the library basement lies the signs of gruesome crime. Find the shirt that Jack Ripper left behind.

Happy hunting, let the games begin…

Hervantajärvi Beach Party 26.08.2021

Last week we had a beach party at Hervantajärvi for all the new international students that have arrived here in Tampere, as well as their great tutors. Thanks to coordination between the guilds, we had a large variety of people from all different studies. Due to the large space, it was possible to ensure that the event was Corona safe with everyone spread out.

To make sure everyone was nice and relaxed and ready for the upcoming festivities, our lovely Lauri led us into tranquillity and serenity with his drinking yoga. With his own bespoke yoga poses which made sure everyone was well and truly stretched out.

Following this we had a tournament consisting of around thirty teams competing in the skilful sport of beer pong. Thanks to the drinking yoga, our athletes were in the zone with a competitive fire raging amongst them. Though as the great 1986 movie Highlander states “there can be only one”, and by the end we had that final pair rise above the rest and earn that well-deserved bottle of skumppa.

Whilst the duelling of ping pong balls was raging on one side of the area, both meat and vegan sausages were being grilled to ensure that our attendees’ bellies were full. With our master chef Aarni roasting, and only sometimes slightly cremating them over the fire. Considering it was thought we perhaps bought too few sausages, we were clearly mistaken as we ran out of over a hundred sausages in no time.

We hope everyone had as much fun as we did, and that you were able to get your first experience of student culture here in Hervanta.

Thanks from us to you.

Welcome to Hervanta!

It is that time of year again when new fuksis arrive at Tampere University’s Hervanta Campus to begin their engineering studies, and we would live to welcome all of you. You have chosen a great place to study, and hopefully you enjoyed you Welcome Week.

Just remember, although we are all here to study, it is important to take a break once in a while and relax, and why not use that time to come to our Clubroom, or attend one of the many events we will have this semester. To keep up to date with events we have our Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and newsletter for our members. If you aren’t signed up as a member yet just hop on over to esninto.org/membership and fill in the membership form.

Have a great semester, all the best with your studies, and we hope to see you!
