Equipment Borrowing

Borrow equipment from INTO

As a membership service, members of INTO can borrow the guild’s equipment from the guildroom. We offer a variety of items, such as ice skates, disc golf discs, outdoor games, kyykkä sets, board games and more. Below you can find a list of items we lend. To borrow items, you need to have a proof of membership, so make sure to sign up via kide.app and have your digital membership card via the app ready.

How to Borrow?

To borrow items, go to our guildroom during our opening hours and ask for a Board Member or an Officer to help you borrow items. We will require you to sign a form, including your contact details, what items you have borrowed and when you will return the items. Borrowing equipment is free for members, but if you misuse the equipment, INTO can demand a reimbursement for broken or lost equipment. The items are lended on a first come first serve basis, so we can’t guarantee items availability if someone else is currently borrowing them.

When borrowing equipment, you will use the equipment at your own risk. INTO is not responsible for any injuries that may arise from the use of the equipment borrowed. Before borrowing you should familiarise yourself with the use of the equipment. Note that you can always ask for help and guidance if needed.

Leaving Finland and want to donate your used equipment? INTO accepts donations of sports equipment alongside the starter kits return sessions. Bring your used sports equipment to one of the starter kit sessions (or contact a board member for another time) and it will go to circulation to be used by others. We appreciate all the donations of equipment as those make the service possible!

Equipements you can borrow

Ice Skates

INTO has a variety of ice skates that members can borrow, you can find our current list of skates below.

Where can we skate?

For ice skating in the off season, we recommend the underground ice rink in Hervanta (Click here). The Hervanta ice rink is unique as it is underground in a bomb shelter. The entrance to the ice rink is via an elevator. There are free skating turns open to the public that can be found in the Tampere ice rink calendar here (Click here). To find public turns, select Hervanta from the drop down menu and look for skating turns labeled “YLEISÖLUISTELU” The fields H1 and H2 refer to the two skating rinks at the location.

For ice skating in the winter, we recommend the public ice skating rinks around the city. Most of the ice skating rinks are used by elementary schools during the day, but evenings are free to the public. Note that sometimes local hockey clubs reserve the fields, in which case you need to find another location at that time.

It is possible to ice skate on the frozen lakes, however do so only with the proper care and precautions. For safety you should know the following:

  1. The ice needs to be thick enough for it to be safe to skate. There are governmental websites that track how well the ice holds, but most of those are in Finnish. As a rule of thumb, ask an experienced local person for guidance before embarking on ice.
  2. Just because the ice holds on the beach, does not mean the entire lake is frozen over. Underwater currents create thin spots that can be dangerous. We advise only skating on designated areas, such as the ice skating paths around Rauhaniemi.
  3. Do not go ice skating on the lake alone. If an accident happens it is important to have someone else to help immediately.

For more precautions on travel on ice, you can find instructions from the Finnish border guards’ website here (Click here).

Kyykkä sets

INTO has a total of 3 sets of kyykkäs (3 boxes of kyykkäs and 12 karttus)

Before borrowing the game make sure to familiarize yourself with the rules of the game and to find a suitable location to play. Rules of Kyykkä can be found from the Tampere student kyykkä associations website here (Click here).

Kyykkä should be played on gravel or on snow. Suitable locations to play are the various gravel sports fields in Hervanta. Some scratching, wear and tear of equipment is expected and kyykkäs may split from impact of heavy throws. Still – try to choose a suitable location to play to not damage the equipment excessively. Avoid play around rocks or other objects that may damage the karttus and do not play on concrete or stone surfaces.

Disc golf discs

INTO has a collection of disc golf discs for members to borrow. The discs include a variety of drivers, midranges and putters so you can try out different discs to find the ones that suit your play the best. For beginners, we recommend borrowing 3-5 discs at a time with at least one putter, one midrange and one fairway driver each.

There are multiple free to play disc golf courses in Tampere, with the closest course being Näyttämönpuisto in Hervanta. (Click here). You can find more disc golf courses here: link

Disc golf is a summer game. It is possible to play in the winter, but we don’t recommend it as discs can easily be lost in the snow. If you lose a disc, try to look for it for at least 15 minutes if possible. We expect members to reimburse half the cost of a lost disc if one is lost.

When playing, remember to follow the disc golf course etiquette (Click here). Remember that disc golf discs are not meant for playing catch. Compared to a catch frisbee, disc golf discs are heavier and faster and can cause injury. Make sure there is no-one in front of you when throwing.

The courses consist of a set number of holes, often 9 or 18. Each hole starts from a tee-pad and ends in a basket. Scoring is done relative to par, where you subtract the par from your number of throws. Lowest total score wins in the end. You can find the complete rules of the game here: link.

For scorekeeping, we recommend the upsi app found here (link) it allows you to create a group scorecard and has all the basic features for free. Another popular app is udisc (Click here) which is more feature rich, but costs a subscription if you want to save more than 10 games of play.

Beer pong sets

As the saying goes, a pong a day keeps the graduation away.

We have multiple sets of cups and balls for beer pong, enough to host a small tournament with your friends or your tutor group. Make sure to return the cups washed and dry, we don’t want moldy and stinky cups around. Note that the cups are not dishwasher safe.

In Hervanta rules for beer pong, the game is played 2 versus 2. The starting team is decided with two rock-paper-scissors games played diagonally across, if one player from each team wins, the winning players play a third game to decide the starting team.

The game is played with 2 balls and a turn is taken with both players of a team throwing one each. The throwing distance can be decided by players, but usually is one leg length from the table. When a ball is thrown into a cup that counts as one cup out. If the second ball is thrown to the same cup, they count as three cups out. Additionally if a ball is bounced in, that counts as 2 cups out.

A ball can’t be blocked unless it has bounced. A bounced ball can be blocked at any time. A ball bouncing from a cup does not count as a bounce if it has not bounced from elsewhere.

The cups are considered magnetic, meaning that if there is a gap between cups, the cups are connected. The cups should be two finger widths from the edge of the table and can be corrected by the players at any time. Additionally each team is allowed to ask to change the shape of the cups two times per game.

We don’t play with trickshots, re-throws or similar rules. Once one team is out of cups, there are no comeback mechanics. If a team wins with the other team not hitting a single cup, the losing team has been thrown under the table. The losing team may sign the underside of the table with their names and date, but only sign tables at student venues.
